As of April 1, 2021, I was appointed Director of the Research Center for Agricultural Robotics (RCAR), NARO. I would like to take this opportunity to offer a few remarks.
Japan is facing a serious shortage of agricultural labor due to the aging of farmers and lack of successors. Therefore, in order to sustainably develop agricultural productivity, it is necessary to ensure a stable supply of agricultural products and to add a new value to the products by improving agricultural technology.
The RCAR aims to solve such problems in the agricultural and food industries by applying state-of-the-art robotics and system integration technologies. We also aim to deploy robotics and system integration technologies to agricultural production, processing, distribution, and consumption processes, and to achieve the early realization of Society 5.0 in the agriculture and food industry.
